I don’t know about you but December is one of my favorite months. It is colder, cuddlier and the perfect time to stay inside, drink hot chocolate, and watch movies. Matt and I lately have been SO into watching holiday movies and it is such a fun thing to do together.
We get to show each other movies we both loved growing up and watch them together. We get to rewatch movies both of us have seen a million times and get to watch new ones together. It really is a great date night activity to do together or a fun night to have with friends at your place. Either way, ’tis the season for holiday movies!
Because of that, I thought I’d compile a list of 10 best holiday movies to watch.
Best Holiday Movies
This movie just came out this year with Kurt Russell. It is rated 68% on Rotten Tomatoes, but if you asked Matt and me, it is more like 86% haha. It was such a young and dumb movie but SO cute at the same time. We both shocked ourselves with how into it we were but you can’t help but smile when you’re watching it.
#2: The Holiday
This Cameron Diaz and Jude Law movie is a holiday classic…or if you ask me, a year round classic. I love this movie! It is so cute. It is timeless. And who doesn’t want to look at two beautiful people like Cameron Diaz and Jude Law?! My mom and I watch this movie at least once a year together.
This movie is so good that it has been re-made multiple times. It is a feel good movie that makes you want to believe in Santa Claus.
Originally written by Dr. Seuss, How The Grinch Stole Christmas is such a well made movie. The picture is incredible and it is such a good story. Jim Carrey does such a great job acting in it and bringing the Grinch’s character to life.
#5: Home Alone
Home Alone truly is a classic! I have seen the movie so many times and, although dated, and not something I want to watch all of the time, it is such a good movie to rewatch around this time of year.
#6: Love Actually
This movie came out in 2003 but quickly became a favorite movie to everyone. I feel like it is one of those movies that is a go to for everyone. It is the perfect balance between funny and loving.
#7: Mean Girls
I mean…this movie I Think is definitely a year round movie BUT the holiday season is an especially good time to watch this. This movie was a huge comeback for Lindsay Lohan if you ask me. After The Parent Trap when I was younger, I was waiting for another good movie to out from her and Mean Girls was it. It left such a mark on so many people which is a great sign of a good movie!
#8: Trading Places
If you want to laugh and love Eddie Murphy, then this is the movie to watch — or rewatch if you’ve already seen it. Matt and I have watched this movie twice together and we laugh every time. It is so good.
I love this movie so much! It really is such a perfect movie for this time of year. I definitely recommend the first one over Bridget Jones Baby, though.
The ultimate romantic comedy. John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale really make you believe in fate and you are rooting for them the entire movie. Taking place in beautiful and dreamy NYC, you also find yourself wanting to go to NYC to find love too.
What are your favorite holiday movies? Let me know!
