Fashion right now is going through a major shift. I believe it will be for the good but for someone like me who typically doesn’t love change out the gate, I am unsure how I feel. Fashion feels a little uninspired right now to me. I know in reality it’s not. Also, I think it’s more that it is in transition, but it is different.
Warning: this post will probably be controversial. All opinions are my own. My opinions are not the only correct ones or the best opinion. It is just mine. I welcome any and all other opinions as well.
Love It or Hate It?
Right now fashion is heavily street style inspired. Don’t get me wrong, I actually love street wear, but I think there is a time and a place. I get the idea of mixing two very diverse styles and cultures and trying to shift the idea of high end fashion being only for the “elitist.” While I agree, the elitist stature shouldn’t be the only important one, I think there needs to be room for everyone and I think we’re working so hard to erase one type of person or idea, that the other person has taken over a bit.
It feels like in the process of this cultural shift in fashion, which I do think was needed, we lost the other demographic. I walked through Barney’s last week looking for wedding clothes and anything other than street style was lost. It was actually really disappointing. I welcome the change. I welcome the diversity. And, I welcome it all. Furthermore, I just think there needs to be it all for this to really work.
For me, it is a bit too logo heavy. It’s a bit too loud. It feels like it is trying really hard, but the creativity is missing. Everything looks the same to me. I do, however, think that a few brands are doing it really well. I think Jacquemus, Greg Lauren and Brock Collection are great examples of designers who are doing it right. Just look at the three of them and you’ll know what I mean — each of them have something so different and unique.
To answer my own question: Love it or hate it? I love the intention behind the change. Honestly, I believe in what fashion is trying to do and the statement we are making. Also, I hate this transition phase. I do believe we will get there though.
Fashion Trends Of The Moment
There are three trends that are going super strong right now and I am so curious what you guys think of them. A part of me absolutely hates them, the other part of me, finds myself looking at how people are styling each of these so there must a part of me that is intrigued. Like I said, fashion is complicated right now. Even my answers are complicated haha.
Trend 1: The Biker Short
This is a major trend of the moment! Biker shorts are everything and for everyday. This isn’t a work out attire type of trend — although that is a style I can get behind. Actually, I love the idea for fitness. I like leggings, don’t like typical work out shorts, so why not have leggings as shorts?! Genius! But, back to the real trend. Biker shorts for everyday.
Trend 2: Dad Sneakers
This is definitely one of the most comfortable trends there has ever been. Dad sneakers are bigger than ever and they don’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon. Louis Vuitton really pushed this trend and they made it acceptable to ditch your heels for practically any occasion and wear sneakers.
Trend 3: Logo Crazy
Dior relaunched the monogrammed saddle bag and people went crazy for it. Walk through a department store and you will also find everyone has put their logo on their clothes this season. Logo’s, logo’s, logo’s.
What do you think of these trends and the shift fashion is currently going through? Are you into it or not so much?
