Styling outfits is one of my favorite things to do. If you didn’t know already, or haven’t read my about me, I have a background in fashion styling. What started as helping out styling clothing racks at Juicy Couture and Planet Blue, to then styling people in real life for their personal life or red carpet events, it has always been a passion of mine. I love creating aesthetically pleasing looks/spaces and even better if they can be repurposed for more than one occasion.
Styling Day To Night Outfits
I’ve talked about repurposing outfits many times on my blog before. I am not someone who believes in wearing something one time which is why I also only selectively believe in fast fashion. I am someone who much rather save my money and invest in a timeless item that I will have forever. Often times I wear one item many times. Not saying I don’t own a lot of things, but I do think I’m more strategic with what I own. I am good at making one item look different with each outfit to make someone believe I always am wearing something new when in reality the outfit is just new, not the item.
How Do I Do It?
I creative this illusion in four easy steps:
Step 1: Space the item out. We know you’re excited about that new item in your closet (as you should be) but that doesn’t mean you have to wear it everyday at the same time of day. This is why I like investing in pieces that can be worn during the day or night.
Step 2: Style them with at least one different item. Sometimes just switching up something like a shoe can give an outfit a completely different feel. In the outfit I’m wearing below all I did was switch out the top and shoes but one feels perfect for a night out with friends and the other feels perfect for a casual lunch.
Step 3: Know your audience. Chances are you see many different people, maybe even each day. You really love that one item and want to wear it everyday? Do it! Just make sure you know who you’re seeing in advance.
Step 4: Get the idea out of your head that you always have to buy something new or wear something new for it to be cute. A cute item is always cute as long a you style it cutely. Wear that item you worked for to buy thousands of time! Own it.
