I thought I would test out a new segment with bringing you an outfit idea. I think we’re all guilty of looking in our own closet and feeling uninspired. I at least know that I do. I go in my closet and I see nothing and feel like I have nothing. I’ve worn everything a million and one times and I’m over it.
As I mentioned recently in another blog post, this year I am all about budgeting — and with budgeting — shopping isn’t really top of my list for things to spend on. Because of that, it is forcing me to get creative.
Shopping My Own Closet
When I feel uninspired by my clothes, I’m not running to go shop online — instead I’m shopping my own closet. This is actually a really good exercise because it forces me to get creative and it’s a challenge. I love a challenge. How can I make items in my closet feel new, fresh, and inspiring? Well… I did it! Or I think so 🙂 and I got lots of compliments when I wore it too!
How To Create The Outfit I Wore
First, I had an idea of some items I wanted to incorporate and I also knew the vibe I wanted. I was going for elevated, casual chic but fashion forward. I was headed to a meeting at Rachel Zoe HQ’s and I wanted to not try too hard but always want to leave an impression. Below is what I came up with:
Grab a blank tee. I chose this Cotton Citizen cropped long sleeve tee, which although you can’t see very well in this outfit, it is a staple in my life and I think everyone should have this. It’s perfect for layering, for lounging in and just life. It is so comfortable and the quality is amazing. I wear it all the time.
Put on a pair jeans that make you feel good. I knew I wanted to wear light denim so I chose these Citizens of Humanity jeans. I love the fit and the wash is exactly what I was going for. These are Liya High Rise Classic Fit Premium Vintage – I love Citizen’s vintage denim selection — these do fit true to size, but I recommend going up one size if you have hips or a butt at all to be slightly more comfortable. I wore my typical denim size in these but think I would size up one in the future on this style just to be slightly more mobile at the hips.
Take a scarf from your closet with some color and throw it over your shoulder. I love this Bop Basics pink cashmere scarf, which is on sale right now too.
Grab your favorite flats and sunglasses and go out the door! I wore these Krewe sunglasses and leopard Alexander Wang flats that are super old but I love these Sam Edelman ones that are similar and new.
What do you think of this outfit idea or this segment in general? Is this something I should continue to do? I know it helps me to see other people’s outfits sometimes and watch how they put them together — even if it’s really simple — so that I can get inspired and do the same myself.
