Design and Manufacture
More and more fashion brands are taking their designs from oversees and manufacturing them here in the states to be brought to life. More specific than the states, Los Angeles has been the hub for this movement. Los Angeles has become a fashion hub over the last several years with a focus on sustainable fashion. It is a city that is filled with designers, pattern makers, manufactures and everything in between. While some may feel you are saving money by going oversees — you gain a lot from producing a brand locally. For one, you get to have an inspiring Made in America story. Second, you are able to better manage your brands production assuring that your customers will receive the best quality which leads to more sales in the long run.
Los Angeles Clothing Brands
The best part about so many brands manufacturing locally is being able to support amazing local Los Angeles based brands. Anyone else like supporting locals?! My top nine clothing lines right now are Jesse Kamm, Lykke Wullf, Clare V, Raquel Allegra, Simon Miller, Lily Ashwell, ReDone, The Great, and Doen. A little bit about each one:
About the brand: Jesse Kamm has been around since 2005 and just looking at her brand demonstrated what Jesse is about in real life — the simple life. Jesse says it best “I choose to live simply so that I can travel, and spend as much time in the sea as possible. We all choose how to allocate our resources, and I choose to save mine for leisure, because that is what makes me happy. My life is luxurious, but not in the way most people see luxury. It is luxurious because I have freedom, and for me, freedom is wealth.” She is goals! You’ll likely want to wear her clothes barefoot by the beach with bed head.
My favorites piece from her collection right now: The Sailor Pant in Tobacco color
About the brand: Lykke Wullf embodies what it means to be a cool girl. A brand that I can best describe as the perfect balance between minimalistic and eccentric, Lykke Wullf has found a space in the market that didn’t really exist besides through vintage.
My favorite piece from her collection right now: Denim Boustier
About the brand: This 5 year old West Coast brand is already killing it with seven locations, and the flagship being in Silverlake. Claire V. does a little bit of it all — what once was a young company that made great laptop cases has expanded to all sorts of accessories. From computer accessories, to beautiful bags, and now expanding to clothing – there is something for everyone, and at prices that are reasonable given the quality.
My favorite piece from her collection right now: The Petite Alice woven bag. This bag makes me want to go back to the Amalfi Coast and travel around on a boat.
About the brand: Raquel Allegra is a Los Angeles brand who mixes luxury with a worn in feel. Originally known for her shredded shirts and when I first was intrigued by her, Raquel has expanded her brand to so much.
My favorite piece from her collection right now: linen top and bottomthe new
About the brand: Simon Miller is one of my favorite designers that I discovered at Nordstrom last August. I got my first pair of high fashion sweats from him (worn here) and I was hooked. He has created a line that is so effortlessly cool and comfortable. Talk about an effortless cool girl.
My favorite piece from his collection right now: Mustard yellow bucket bag #NEED
About the brand: Lily AshwellLocated on Rose Avenue in Venice, California, is my ultimate California vintage beach girl goals. The brand is direct to consumer in order to provide customers with the best prices.
My favorite piece from the collection right now: Chambray overalls
About the brand: Unlike lots of other brands, ReDone is a Los Angeles based brand that repurposes old Levi’s and clothing and makes them into amazing and trendy modern day pieces. They are one of my favorite denim brands to buy and are well worth their price point which is on the higher side.
My favorite piece from the collection right now: High Rise Ankle Crop
About the brand: Remember the brand Current Elliott? This is them…but new and (in my opinion) better. Emily Current and Merritt Elliot are serious #girlbosses. Starting as celebrity stylists, followed by their hugely successful denim line, The Great is their latest venture and it is nothing less than GREAT.
My favorite piece from the collection right now: Boxy Crew
About the brand: Doen is a brand that my sister introduced me to a while ago and it is SO good. Does has a way of taking you somewhere visually and through their clothes where you feel like you are on vacation in the most dreamy of places and let’s be real, who doesn’t want to feel that way when they get dressed?!
My favorite piece from the the collection right now: Thistle Top
