Tips For Choosing
Holiday Party Attire
As I get older, every week or month, there seems to be an event, especially this time of year. Whether it is for a holiday party with friends, a Christmas party, or an office holiday party, there always seems to be something. I wouldn’t call myself an expert at getting dressed for these events, but by know, I definitely have some idea of what to wear and do. How to choose a holiday party outfit and what to think about when doing it:
Holiday Party Tip #1: Go festive or classic?
When picking out a holiday outfit, there are two main things to think about; should you go festive or classic? A few things you may want to take into account when making this decision is: Where is your holiday party? Who’s hosting the party? Who is attending it? And are the people who are attending more traditional or are they new age? This may seem like a lot of questions to think about when you’re invited to a holiday party but after you figure out those questions it is really simple. The worst thing you can do is ignore these questions and then show up dressed inappropriately for the occasion. Trust me, it has happened to me. I once went to a holiday party thinking “oh, it’s a casual work holiday party. People will probably be in jeans and heels.” I showed up in some version of that and stood out in the most terrible way as everyone else was dressed up for a cocktail party. LESSON LEARNED.
To help save you the embarrassment I once experienced, I’ve put together five outfit ideas for four different style occasions + some picks for your boyfriend or husband. Hopefully one of these will resonate with you and help you for any upcoming events you may have!
Festive Holiday Attire
The first outfit idea is for the festive holiday look. The party where it’s not just a dress to impress party, but it’s a dress to look festive theme. I used to be invited to a lot of ugly sweater parties and it’s not necessarily my favorite thing to go out and buy the ugliest sweater I can find, because #wasteofmoney, butttt there are other ways that you can dress for these type of parties to look festive.
Casual Holiday Outfits
This outfit is for the family party or a casual holiday spent with friends and is my personal favorite. I LOVE to get dressed up but I also love spending time with my family and friends in a casual way where we can all be comfortable and not have to try so hard. For these types of events, I like sweaters, blazers, jeans, leather leggings… something casual but elevated.
Semi Formal Outfits
It’s always hard to know the difference of what to wear to something that is semi formal? There is a fine line between being underdressed and overdressed. My typical go to’s are a black dress for any occasion (everyone needs a LBD in their closet), a pencil skirt for a semi formal office party, and cocktail dresses.
Little Black Dresses Ideas:
Formal Holiday Outfits:
Formal holiday parties are so much fun to go to, but can be a bit tricky. Most people, including myself sometimes, don’t know what to wear because we don’t have to dress formally very often. Especially in Los Angeles where it is so casual always, it can be a bit of a challenge. For these types of occasions, and especially going with the trend of this season, you can’t go wrong with velvet or a sequin dress.
Mens Holiday Style:
The second most important thing after how you look for the party, is how your date looks for the party. I’ve noticed boyfriends / husbands often times think they look AMAZING and have the best style but sometimes they don’t know what’s best when it comes to getting dressed for formal occasions.
