Let’s Talk About Skin
Who doesn’t want glowing skin these days?! Maybe it was always trendy and I’m newer to it but that is my life goal these days! Ok…maybe I’m being slightly dramatic, but you get how passionately I feel about this. When I was in high school, all I ever wanted was matte skin, matte make up, matte everything. My mom always told me I’d thank her and my dad later for having oily skin (since it preserves your skin from getting wrinkles) and I can say thank you because while most of my friends have botox, I have not needed to do that…yet, but I definitely notice my skin has changed this year.
While I once had overly oily skin, which I am NOT complaining about…I learned early on about Clean & Clear blotting papers and we have been best friends since then. My skin has changed a bit this year. I used to be scared to use moisturizer because I naturally had so much “moisture” but now my skin craves hydration. Since adding oils, serums and moisturizers to my routine, I’ve never gotten so many compliments on my skin. I’ll do a full post on this later… because today I wanted to talk about how to achieve glowing no make up, make up skin this Summer.
Glowing No Make Up, Make Up
This may sound simple and easy but it is actually quite hard to achieve. I am amazed at the amount of people I see walking around who are trying to achieve a no make up look by wearing natural colors and highlighter. But they end up looking like they have a pound of product on their skin combined with a disco ball. Highlight should be used in moderation! So, how do you achieve this look?
How To Achieve This UnDone Look
While I definitely am not a professional at all, I can share with you what my every day no make up looks like. I alternate between a few products so I’ll share the ones I go through but this is what works for me! I also think switching up your products every once in a while is great too. I’ve learned that skincare is like shampoo. Your skin needs a break from products from time to time to respond best. We all need breaks!
Step 1 Glowing No Make Up, Make Up Skin: Apply oil
How weird does this sound?! If you told me to put oil on my skin before period, let alone before I put make up on, I would have told you you have lost your mind. I can honestly say I swear by it now! I get so many comments about my glowing skin in my IG stories and photo’s when it is not filtered! My three favorite oils are Egyptian Magic Cream (which I just did a review on). Dermalogica, and Bio Oil (which I will be doing a review on soon). I swear it adds a layer of hydration to your skin before putting your make up on. I think it adds a protective barrier between your skin and your make up. And it adds a natural highlight to your face without having to use anything too crazy.
Step 2 Glowing No Make Up, Make Up Skin: Foundation
Finding something that is not too heavy, too matte, or too glow-y is a hard balance. It’s usually either. My two favorite foundations of the moment are L’Oreal true match (which I have worn since 12th grade in high school) and Armani Luminous Silk Foundation (which I am obsessed with). Both go on so nicely and I love them both! The best part is that they both come in so many different color tones so they work with practically anyone’s skin tone.
Step 3 Glowing No Make Up, Make Up Skin: Concealer
I was recently introduced to Laura Mercier Flawless Fusion Longer Concealer which I really like. At first I wasn’t sure because it is a thicker consistency than I am used to but I actually love it. A little goes a long way but it covers better than anything I have used and it truly lasts all day! Most days I honestly skin the foundation and just wear this concealer under my eyes and over my sun spots on my left eye.
Step 4 Glowing No Make Up, Make Up Skin: Setting Powder
I alternate between both IT Cosmetics Translucent Powder and Laura Mercier’s famous powder. Honestly, I really love them both. I used to not use setting powder but I do think with the oil, powder helps keep everything in place for a day where you’re wearing foundation.
Step 5 Glowing No Make Up, Make Up Skin: Blush
Quickly (and I mean literally quickly) pat blush that is left over on your brush onto your cheekbones. I don’t like having a lot on my face most days and especially don’t want it to look like a lot. A little bit of blush can go along way and I like just using the extra from my brush and adding the tiniest bit of color to my face. I’ve been stuck on this blush from Bobbi Brown from a year now but recently Nars sent me their Orgasm blush and so I have been alternating between the two. Side note: I really love the orgasm blush for eyeshadow also.
Step 6 Glowing No Make Up, Make Up Skin: Bronzer
I’m loyal true and true to Benefit’s Hoola Bronzer. I’ve used it for as long as I can remember using bronzer. I challenge you to introduce me to another bronzer brand that I love more though and I will try it out! Comment below if you think there is one that is better 🙂.
Step 7 Glowing No Make Up, Make Up Skin: Lips
I always opt for either a chapstick (Avene is my favorite) or a moisturizing lip glow like the Dior Addict lipstick or Nars’ Orgasm Lip Glow. They just came out with that I am OBSESSED with. Betwee the three you are good to know for the day!
While this sounds like a lot of steps, I assure you it doesn’t (or shouldn’t) take longer than 10 minutes. I have counted! What does your no make up, make up look like? I love to see and learn from other’s! Comment below.
