Let’s Get Real About Cult Beauty Items
It’s no secret that I am obsessed with all things beauty. I’m constantly sharing stories of my beauty routine on my Instagram stories, and whether it’s a new serum, shampoo, or body treatment, I am all about trying what’s new and now when it comes to beauty and wellness.
I don’t know about you guys, but sometimes I feel that some of the biggest cult beauty buys don’t actually live up to the hype. Which is what compelled me to write this post.
Honest Cult Beauty Reviews
Today, I’m sharing honest reviews about some of the biggest cult beauty and wellness buys in the game. I’ve tried every single one of them. I am prepared to be honest about the good, the bad, and everything in between.
Beauty Dust by Moon Juice
When the internet went wild about these adaptogenic dusts a few years ago, I had to try them. And today, they’re still as popular as ever, which is why I wanted to share my thoughts. The dust I tried for the longest period of time was Beauty Dust, which is supposed to yield glowing skin, shiny hair, and longer, stronger nails. I simply added some to my morning smoothie, juice, or coffee, and waited for the magic to happen.
PROS: I’ll be the first to admit that my skin looked brighter. Plus, with ingredients like goji (a natural blood purifier), rehamannia (it cleans the kidneys), and natural collagen boosters, I knew I was giving my body some love.
CONS: If you’re someone that craves instant gratification, it is not for you. With Moon Juice dusts you won’t notice results overnight. I had to wait about three months to see minor skin and hair changes. If that’s cool with you, try one.

Named the best natural beauty product of 2018 by Glamour Magazine, this oil has over 22 active botanicals and essential oils. Inspired by wine making, it’s said to brighten, tighten, firm, and act as a natural antioxidant. After hearing about it from friends and reading about it all over the internet, I decided to give it a try.
PROS: If you are sensitive and get red anywhere at all. This definitely helps to keep skin looking more even and bright. Lastly, this would be a great addition to a wintertime skincare routine (or for someone who flies a lot) because it is so incredibly hydrating.
CONS: First off, the bottle is pricey ($185 a pop to be exact!). And while I’m all about spending that for something that changes my skin, I didn’t notice anything exponential. Additionally, if you’re prone to breakouts or have super-oily skin, I wouldn’t try this because it can feel a bit greasy. I liked it, but I don’t believe it lived up to the hype.

I love a thick, bold brow, so I was naturally excited to try this product when I read that it thickens, fills in, and grooms brows in a single sweep. Available in a multitude of different shades, it’s made from a creamy wax formula that’s inspired by pomade.
PROS: It’s a one and done kind of product and I think the different shades are pretty spot-on.
CONS: I didn’t love the texture and felt that it made my brows feel somewhat sticky. To be totally honest, my brows look more natural and groomed when I use a brow filler and grooming wand (and the two steps literally take no time anyways).

Jen Atkin is a hair genius, so naturally, when Ouai, her line of haircare products came out, I couldn’t wait to give it a try. I’ve tried (and love!) all of her shampoos, conditioners, and styling products, so I was excited when I found out about the Dry Foam Shampoo, too. This foam works without water to cleanse and freshen up hair to make blowouts last longer and look better.
PROS: I have been using this after my workouts and I’m obsessed! My hair lasts longer between rinses and my hair smells and looks fresh and clean when I don’t have time to wash. I’ve never really been a fan of dry shampoos because they tend to leave white powdery residue on my hair. However, this one went on totally clear.
CONS: I wanted to make my blowout last while Matt and I were traveling, and so I worked this into my roots. I think by the time I used it my hair was a little too oily, because it felt like it almost made it even dirtier. I still recommend it, though, just use it on day 2, when hair is dirty, but not too dirty.

Lord Jones CBD products are some of the most stylish cannabis products in the game. Made with hemp-infused CBD, they have no psychoactive properties and boast benefits like soothing inflammation. Also, muscle soreness and easing anxiety and stress.
PROS: A friend recommended I try this tincture to help me with sleep, and it’s worked so far! I drop a little in my mouth before bedtime and it makes me feel super-calm and relaxed. Side note: it’s also packed with Omega 3’s, which means it reduces inflammation throughout the body, too.
CONS: I bought the peppermint flavor, which, to me, is a bit overwhelming for use before bed. That’s the only con, though. I love this stuff!
