We all know I love making outfits personalized and have my own stamp on it, rather than wearing it like you’d expect. Sometimes doing that is just by pairing an outfit with an unexpected item, or sometimes it is taking an item and altering it to fit you in a way that works for you and your style.
This outfit is a great example of this, but I do it often with other items, too. I loved this ruffle top from Lulu’s but wasn’t a fan of how the top as a whole fit me. I knew I wanted to wear them with my wide leg trousers (similar style pants here) and to do that I knew I needed a shorter top. Instead of taking the time to find a crop top that fit a similar aesthetic or going to the seamstress to alter my top for me, I figured out where I wanted the top to hit on me, took scissors and cut it. Within 10 min I had a brand new top that I was obsessed with…and gauging by the reactions of people around me, they were obsessed too!
3 DIY Outfit Ideas:
- Cut it – an easy and affordable way to customize your outfit
- Layer it – layering can give an outfit a completely different feel than wearing that item on it’s own
- Mix and match until you find the look that works for your style
